California’s Bureau of Automotive Repair has updated their Write it Right regulations. Other states are sure to follow, so Bay-master is here to help you navigate these rules. Pay attention, even if you’re not in California! Other states are often bound to follow California regulation.
You can find the list of regulations in it’s entirety here: https://www.bar.ca.gov/wir#estimate-1
Main Take-aways
- Charging for items generally noted as Shop Supplies or miscellaneous parts is prohibited. The cost of these supplies must be included as part of the estimate and all supplies must be itemized in the invoice
- After every price change, always use the job approval text/email or have customer sign if keeping physical copies
- Records of all estimates must be kept, not just the final invoice.
Helpful Tips
- Always use the job approval text/email or have customer sign, if keeping physical copies, after every price change
- Record all estimates, not just the final invoice
- Use the built in waiver notes to cover yourself legally
**************************
We have added an option to save the Estimate into the Documents section.
A pdf copy of the current estimate will be stored for the lifetime of the invoice for easy reference.

You can also have it automatically make a record when marking an estimate to the Approved status
by turning on the setting in Admin > Company Defaults Column > Preferences.
